Irritable bowel, stress, and a gut that overreacts
IBS is a sensitive gut, not an imaginary one. Pain is real. The tests are often normal. That combination confuses families and produces a lot of useless syrups.
This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.
In plain language
The bowel squeezes too strongly or too irregularly, and the brain listens too loudly. Pain is related to stools. There may be constipation, diarrhoea, or both, and bloating that worsens through the day. Alarm features do not belong to IBS: bleeding, weight loss, anaemia, fever, or onset after fifty without a look. Those need investigation first.
Signs worth noticing
These are the clues families usually notice first. One of them, on its own, is not a diagnosis.
- Pain that eases after a stool.
- A pattern that has been similar for months.
- Bloating by evening.
- Night pain that wakes you, or blood.
What usually sits underneath
Stress does not invent the condition, but it turns the volume up. Some people also react to milk, excess wheat in large amounts, or caffeine. A food diary beats a random elimination of everything tasty.
Care that is reasonable at home
- Eat at regular times. A chaotic day produces a chaotic bowel.
- Limit the foods you have personally noticed, not an internet list of thirty bans.
- Walk. It helps the gas move.
- Treat sleep and anxiety as part of the illness. A gut clinic that never mentions stress is incomplete, and a stress lecture that never examines you is rude.
These steps are for someone who is otherwise stable. If the picture is changing quickly, skip the home trial and come in.
When waiting is a bad idea
- Bleeding, black stools, weight loss, or fever.
- A family history of colon cancer or coeliac disease and a change in you.
- Pain that is new, severe, and different from your old pattern.
How Rao Lokram Charitable Trust fits in
We can check the alarm features, do the few tests that are actually useful, and stop the cycle of random antibiotics for a condition antibiotics do not treat. OPD runs Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at Near Rockford School, Anaj Mandi Chowk, Kadipur Road, Shakti Park, Sector 10A, Gurugram, Haryana. Call 98185 48492 or 70423 28047. There is no appointment form on this website.
Questions people ask
Is it dangerous?
IBS itself does not become cancer. Missing a different disease because we called everything IBS is the danger. That is why alarm symptoms are examined.
Should I stop milk?
Only if a proper trial shows you are better off it. Many people blame milk and are unchanged.
Will a colonoscopy be done automatically?
No. It is for alarm features or the right age and history, not for every cramp.
If this sounds like you, bring the article on your phone if you want, but let the clinician examine you. Old reports and a list of current medicines make the visit shorter.
